A giant uprooted tree that fell across a road near Karadi Anganvadi at Nelliampathy continued to disrupt vehicle movement through the region for the second day on Friday. The East Indian walnut tree, having a circumference of nearly six feet, was uprooted on Wednesday night between Vannani bridge and Karappara at Nelliampathy.
Another tree of the same size fell across the road at the same spot during the floods of August last year, causing traffic disruption for about a week at Karappara.
The attempts by plantation workers to remove the walnut tree by cutting it did not succeed on Friday because of the size of the tree.
Local people blamed that the government authorities did not heed their demand to remove the uprooted tree.
