Total cases in India reach 40 as Kerala toddler tests positive


A three-year-old has been confirmed with COVID-19 in Kochi, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to six. The child along with parents had landed– in flight EK503 Dubai-Kochi– at Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) on Saturday. As per the health department, fever was detected through the universal screening facility installed at the airport.

From the airport itself, the baby was taken to the isolation ward at Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kalamassery in a special ambulance of the health services. Both the parents have also been isolated along with the baby.

The blood samples, which were given for testing at the National Institute of Virology, Alappuzha, came as positive, said District Medical Officer N K Kuttapa.

He said the test results of parents are yet to arrive.

The details of the co-passengers travelled in the flight and those who have closely interacted with the baby are being tracked by the health department.
