Two women from AP stopped at Marakkoottom
Two women from West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh who tried to visit the Ayyappa temple were escorted to Pampa in the foothills of Sabarimala by the police as they faced protests from a group of devotees on the Pampa-Sannidhanam trekking path on Saturday.
The police arrested three persons from Ranni, Subhash, 38, Santhosh, 45, and Mahesh, 34, in connection with the incident.
The two women, Kripavathi, 42, and Navodamma, 33, were blocked when they reached Marakkoottom on the Pampa-Sannidhanam path. One of them reportedly reached the steps leading to the Bailey bridge near the Sannidhanam on the Chandrananadan Road.
There were reports that the two women were spotted first by a group of devotees returning from the Sannidhanam.
The police party at Pampa had reportedly cautioned Kripavathi on the chance of protests and asked her to return to Pampa in the event of a protest. Both the women were escorted to Pampa.
