150 personnel take part in mock drill in view of the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition
The police and the Central forces strengthened security at Sabarimala from Wednesday in view of the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on Thursday.
Darshan from the small enclosure at the temple sopanam, close to the sancturm sanctorum, will not be permitted on Thursday.
The State police and the Central security forces conducted a combined mock-drill as part of the security arrangements.
As many as 150 personnel representing various platoons took part in the mock drill.
The police keep a track on the pilgrim flow to the holy hillock. Certain restrictions were in force at the Sannidhanam from Tuesday evening. The pilgrim flow to the holy hillock was moderate in the past 24 hours.
Armed guards, including commandos of the Rapid Action Force attached to the Central Reserve Police Force and commandos of the Kerala police, had been deployed at various key points in the close vicinity of the Ayyappa temple, Malikappuram Bhagavathy temple and Pampa Ganapati temple, sources said.
The bomb squad is conducting periodic inspections in and around the Sannidhanam. The ghee brought by devotees for Neyyabhishekom and flowers for Pushpabhishekom ritual had been subjected to thorough inspection by the bomb squad.
People entering the temple precincts have been subjected thorough security check with the help of metal detectors, explosive detectors, and x-ray scanners.
Those entering the Sannidhanam and the temple premises are diverted through door-framed metal detectors kept at all entry points.
The police have installed close circuit cameras at strategic points for monitoring the movement of people on the trekking path as well as various other parts of the Sannidhanam.
The three-member monitoring committee appointed by the Kerala High Court are also camping at the Sannidhanam.
