Without naming the Prime Minister or any other BJP leader, she targeted the BJP-led government for destroying institutions and spreading hatred in the country.

After being appointed as general secretary of the Congress party, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra chose Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat to deliver her maiden speech targeting the NDA government asking “Where are two crore jobs and ₹15 lakh?”

In a brief speech at a rally after the crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Ahmedabad, she appealed to the audience saying “awareness is your weapon, vote is your weapon” and said that the upcoming elections are “nothing less than independence movement.”

“This nation is based on love and brotherhood. It is sad at what is happening in the country these days. There is no bigger patriotism than awareness. Your awareness is a weapon; your vote is a weapon. It is a weapon that will not hurt or harm anyone. It is a weapon that will strengthen you and the country.

“Think and decide — those who talk big in front of you, where are two crore jobs they promised? What about the ₹15 lakh in every bank account that they talked about? What about women’s safety?” asked the 47-year-old newly-appointed general secretary, addressing a huge rally of Congress workers from across the state.

Without naming the Prime Minister or any other BJP leader, she targeted the BJP-led government for destroying institutions and spreading hatred in the country. “Its sad to see what is happening in the country. Institutions are being demolished, hatred is being spread. This is as good as a second freedom movement,” she said, appealing to party workers that “there can be no bigger thing than guarding the country and moving ahead together.”

“Those who talk about fitrat (nature), the fitrat of this nation is to seek the truth, the fitrat of this nation is to blow away the winds of hate with love,” she said, referring to a remark by Mr. Modi in Ahmedabad while addressing a rally a few days back. The Prime Minister had said that it was his “fitrat to avenge every wrongdoing and hunt down terrorists in their own backyard.”
