In a bid to discourage people from visiting railway stations, divisions across Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) have hiked the platform tickets across stations from the current ₹10 to ₹50.
“This will prevent excess people from coming to the stations just to drop people off,” a senior railway official said.
On CR the decision has been taken on its Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Bhusaval and Solapur division. WR has adopted a staggered increase of platform tickets across stations with only Surat having Rs. 50, while most stations the increase is up to ₹15.
