What’s in a beard, you may ask?
Everything, if you are at the first National Beard Championship held at Kozhikode on Friday. Beards of all manner were the cynosure, watched for length, style and thickness.
‘Thaadi Mamankam’ — the first season of the National Beard Championship was held under the aegis of the Kerala Beard Club.
Show of strength
Around 160 bearded men from all over the State and from other parts of the country turned up for the championship and were judged by actors Praveen Parameshwar, Reijan and Rajalakshmi.
The hirsute were judged in three categories — Long beard, Style Beard and Beard Hunk where the participant’s physique was also in contest.
More than 25 bearded models also walked the ramp as part of the event.
A stem cell donation and hair donation campaign was also organised as part of the ‘Thaadi Mamankam’ in association with Datri Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry.
Around 90 people donated their stem cells for the HLA test as part of the drive, while 13 people, including a 13-year-old girl, donated their hair to be used in wigs for cancer patients.
Twenty others persons have also registered to donate their hair.
