Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed when the bullet proof vehicle they were travelling in came under attack from alleged Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday. Two others were rushed to a hospital.

The troops were out for an area domination exercise in a bullet proof vehicle when the The Communist Party of India (Maoist) fired on them, followed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion, a CRPF official said.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. near Murdanda camp of the CRPF under Awapalli police station in Bijapur when the troops were about a kilometre away from their camp. The vehicle was carrying six personnel.
The first phase of election will cover 18 constituencies in eight Maoist-affected districts – Bastar, Kanker, Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Rajnandgaon.
