The CPI, CPI(M) and VCK would contest in two seats each. The MDMK, IUML, IJK and KMDK would contest in one seat each
The DMK will contest in 20 seats and its allies will contest in 20 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
At the conclusion of the seat-sharing talks with allies at the party headquarters on Tuesday morning, DMK president M.K. Stalin said the DMK’s alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has been finalised. While the DMK would contest in 20 LS seats, the Congress will contest in 10 LS seats, including Puducherry. The CPI, CPI(M) and VCK would contest in two seats each. The MDMK, IUML, IJK and KMDK would contest in one seat each. The MDMK has been given one Rajya Sabha seat.
Expressing the inability to accommodate Manithaneya Makkal Katchi in the alliance, Mr. Stalin said that he has sought their support for the party, assuring to include the party in future alliances.
The committee led by DMK treasurer Duraimurugan, would hold talks with alliance leaders from March 7 to finalise the constituencies to be contested, Mr. Stalin said, adding that he would definitely share the dais with All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi at the election meeting organised by the Congress (on March 13). The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.S. Azhagiri has invited him for the meeting, he said.
After the third round of talks, MDMK general secretary Vaiko signed an agreement with Mr. Stalin. The MDMK has been given one LS seat and one RS seat, he said adding that the talks were satisfactory. The MDMK would work for the DMK in the by-elections to the 21 Assembly constituencies.
