Mr. Adam reportedly praised Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadanvis too for clearing a housing project that was pending for years
The CPI(M) suspended Maharashtra secretary Narasayya Adam from its Central Committee for three months for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a public event in Solapur.
According to sources Mr. Adam, who is said to be close to party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, was campaigning to get clearances for construction of 30,000 houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojna.
Mr. Adam, at a foundation laying ceremony on January 9 which was attended by PM Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, had reportedly praised them for clearing the project which had been pending for last seven to eight years.
There was a call to remove him from the position of state secretary. The other side argued that he spoke because he was passionately associated with the project and does not deserve such a harsh punishment.
The next meeting of CPI(M) Central Committee meeting is scheduled to take place after the general elections in month of June.
