NEW DELHI: With fresh deaths in six states, the death toll from COVID-19 climbed to 25 and the total number of cases to 979 on Sunday, according to the Union health ministry.
The ministry reported one death each from Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Telangana.
In its updated data at 10 am, the ministry said the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country is 867, while 86 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated. The overall 979 cases in the country included 48 foreigners, it said.
The one spot of good news is that across the country, 94 Covid-19 patients – nearly 10% of the total cases reported so far— have recovered from the disease, data shows.
Twenty more COVID-19 cases in Kerala
Twenty more people were detected with coronavirus in Kerala on Saturday, taking the total number of those undergoing treatment for the deadly infection to 181, health minister KK Shailaja said. While Kannur reported eight cases, Kasaragod 7, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram reported one case each, Shailaja said in a statement. Of the 20 people, 18 had come from abroad and two others had been infected through contact.
Centre asks states to seal state, district bordersDuring a video conference with Chief Secretaries and DGPs, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla asked state governments and Union Territory administrations to ensure that there is no movement of people across cities or on highways as the lockdown continues. Only movement of goods has been allowed and District Magistrates and SPs have been tasked with implementation of the order. Centre also directed officials to make adequate food and shelter arrangements for migrant labourers at the place of their work as well as for poor and needy people.
Death toll rises to 7 in Maharashtra, total 193 infected
The coronavirus epidemic in Maharashtra is showing no signs of abating. According to the latest reports one more person has died of the virus in the state bringing the total number of deaths to seven. As of now 193 people have been infected by the virus.
