Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of increasing Covid-19 patients, Kerala has announced total lockdown from tonight (Monday) till March 31.
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the lockdown became necessary to check the spread of the virus. He said state borders will remain closed during the lockdown.
As many as 28 new positive coronavirus cases were reported on Monday, taking the number of Covid-19 patients to 95 in the state.
Barring essential and emergency services, public and private transport services will be stopped during this period.
Water, electricity, telecom and outlets dealing with essential commodities like milk, vegetables, groceries, meat and fish will be open during this period.
Stern actions will be taken against those who violate the restrictions, he said.
