Coronavirus India LIVE Updates: Lockdown 4.0 accounts for nearly half of total COVID cases in India


Coronavirus India News Live Updates: India reported 8,380 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 1,82,143 cases on Sunday. The death toll has increased to 5,164 as 193 deaths were recorded in the last one day.

While the Centre has allowed shops and businesses outside containment zones to resume Monday onwards, Maharashtra Sunday issued its own guidelines prohibiting opening of places of worship, hotels, restaurants, hospitality services, shopping malls, barber shops, spas, salons and beauty parlours across the state which worst hit by the coronavirus. However, from June 5, all markets, market areas and shops, except malls and market complexes, will be allowed to function on odd-even basis from 9 am to 5 pm, the guidelines said. From June 8, all private offices can operate with up to 10% strength as per requirement, with remaining persons working from home. Intra-district bus services will be allowed while inter-district bus services will not be permitted.

During his monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the need to exercise more caution as the economy opens up. On Saturday, the Ministry of Home Affairs released guidelines for the fifth phase of a nationwide lockdown from June 1, allowing hotels, restaurants and shopping malls to open, besides permitting all inter and intra-state movement of public and goods. Globally, about 6 million people have been infected with Covid-19, including 3,66,875 deaths. The United States, at 1,03,353 deaths, is the worst-affected country.
