Act against me for Pulwama tweet, Digvijaya dares Narendra Modi

He had come under attack for calling Pulwama an accident.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to file a case against him after BJP leaders accused him of being “anti-national” for his tweets on the Pulwama attack.

Mr. Singh, who had courted controversy on Tuesday after he referred to the Pulwama terror attack as an “accident,” wondered why calling the attacks a durghatana (accident) should drive the Prime Minister and his colleagues to term him anti-national.

“Intelligence failure”

“The tweet over which you and your ministers called me a Pakistan supporter and an anti-national was posted from Delhi, where police are under the Union government. If you are brave, file a case against me,” he tweeted.

“What action has Modi taken on intelligence failure in the Pulwama terror attack? He is yet to tell the country who is responsible for it. Does Modi-ji hold anyone responsible for this or not? Has he asked for a clarification from the NSA, IB or the RAW chief?” said Mr. Singh.

The Congress leader also re-tweeted a video that shows Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya describing the terrorist attack as a big accident. “Would Modi-ji and his ministers like to say something about Maurya-ji,” he asked.

‘Rising unemployment’

Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, however, tweeted that the government must be held to account on issues of jobs.

“It is time to drag the government to the real world of jobs and the plight of youth. According to CMIE [Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy] survey, unemployment rate has touched 7.2 per cent. What has the PM and his government got to say about this?” tweeted Mr Chidambaram.

Mr. Chidambaram was referring to data compiled by a Mumbai-based CMIE that claimed that the unemployment rate in India rose to 7.2 per cent in February 2019.

“No parent, no unemployed youth, no first time voter and no student will forgive the BJP government for leaving the country with a 7.2% unemployment rate — the highest in several decades,” he said.

“Labour participation rate is falling and unemployment rate is rising. The situation is a man-made catastrophe of the BJP government,” said Mr Chidambaram.
