7 new COVID-19 cases in Kerala on Thursday: Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said that 7 new coronavirus positive cases have been confirmed in Kerala. He was speaking to the media after the coronavirus evaluation meeting here.

Out of the seven, 4 are from Kannur, 2 are from Kozhikode and one is from Kasaragod district, the CM said. Out of them, 5 had returned from abroad while the remaining two developed the disease through contact.

27 people were tested negative on Thursday. Among them, 24 are from Kasaragod while one each are from Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kannur districts.

Till date 394 people in Kerala have been infected by COVID-19 and 147 are under treatment at various hospitals.

As on Thursday, 88,855 persons are under observation in the state. Among this 88,332 are at houses and 532 at hospitals.

On Thursday alone, 108 persons were admitted to hospitals. So far 17,400 samples have been sent for testing out of which 16,459 have turned negative, CM added.

“The number of COVID-19 positive cases reported on Thursday is only one third of the number of people who were cured of the virus on the same day. This shows the success of the state’s healthcare and preventive measures,” the CM added.
