17 foreigners booked for going to beach


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kovalam police registered case against 16 foreign tourists and the owners and staff of the hotels, where they were staying, after the visitors violated the lockdown rules by going to the beach for swimming.

The tourists, who were from UK, Russia, Canada and France, went to the Light House beach by around 7 am on Tuesday and swam in the sea. The matter soon came into the notice of the life guards, who brought them back. The foreigners were booked for defying lockdown norms, while the owners and staff of five hotels, where the tourists were put up at, were charged under State Epidemic Diseases Ordinance.

129 more patients under observation in district
As many as 129 new patients have been put under observation in the district on Wednesday. Of the 16 people who tested positive for Covid 19 in the district, only two are now in treatment. A total of 106 people have been admitted to the isolation wards in various hospitals on the same day.

So far eight people are under isolation in General Hospital, 63 in the Medical College, three in Peroorkada District Model Hospital, three in Nedumangad District Hospital, five people in SAT Hospital, seven in Peroorkada Mental Health Centre and 17 patients in various private hospitals. As many as 2407 people are under home quarantine in the district. On Wednesday, 28 people were newly admitted in hospital and 18 were discharged.
